4 weird facts about your heart.

If you ever feel exhausted at the end of the day know that your heart has worked harder than you have. Your heart is the hardest working muscle in your body, providing oxygen and nutrients to every part of your body 24 hours a day.

 

  1. On average what is the total number of beats your heart produces in a 24 hour period?

Approximately 100,000.

2. If you’ve ever thought that women and men are similar but different, you are right. It might surprise you to know that even their hearts beat differently. Between men and women whose heart will beat faster on average?

Women’s, with an average pace of 8 beats more per minute than men’s.

3. Did you know that there are two specific areas in the spine where nerves regulate heart function? Can you guess which two areas these are?

The first area is at the top of your shoulders and is called the cervical thoracic junction, and this has nerves that control the muscle wall of the heart. The other is the vagus nerve that exits the base of the skull which regulates your heart, lungs, and digestive tract.

4. Can you name the animal with the largest heart in the world?

Blue whale, with a heart averaging 1,500 lbs.
